Religious Thoughts

LIGHTBULB

Ok, so every Monday for almost two years, we get emails from my little brother Keiton thats been on a mission in Ohio. In almost every email, he's been asking us to go to mormon.org and create an account because he says that it's an amazing missionary tool. What happens is if a member creates an account, other members, or investigators can get on there, do a search, and possibly find someone they can relate to. He said that you never know how many lives you can affect just by one simple profile.

So, when we got the email from Keiton today, he mentioned again, that we should make a profile. So, since I had a little free time on my hands today, I decided to go on there and check it out and make a profile.  So, filling out the profile, it has three different sections- the 'About Me' section,  the 'Why I'm a Mormon' section, and lastly, the 'How I Live Me Faith' section.  I've always hated filling things out about myself cause I never know what to say.  But, when I got to the 'Why I'm a Mormon' section, a little prompt came up giving you ideas on what you could put there. It said that the section is meant to help visitors understand why you've chosen to be a member of His church, and that we can talk about my conversion story or why I continue to follow the gospel and it prompts you to share your testimony and what it means to you.  So, when i started filling this section out, it made me really think..... when did I gain my own testimony, and how did I gain it?  It took some long, hard thought, but I remembered. Of coarse, with most children that grow up in the church, their testimony is started and somewhat based on the testimony of their parents'.  I thought back, and yep... .that's how my belief in the church came about.... watching my parents and learning from their testimony. But, then of coarse, there comes a time in your life, where one must stop living off the testimony of others, and find their own.  That started for me in high school.

All throughout high school, I strived to know whether the gospel was true or not.  I studied, and prayed and went to seminary..... and here and there I would feel the spirit really strongly and my testimony would grow little by little. It wasn't really until college that I fully gained my own testimony.  Being on my own, and not having my parents to really lean on 24/7 made me really have to work, and strive to find my own testimony. It was really hard sometimes, but after much reading and praying and some 'soul searching' I guess you would call it, I finally found my own testimony. It took a lot of me owning up to some things and learning not to be selfish, but I found it. I got the manifestation that I wanted and was looking for. I finally knew for myself that the gospel is true, and that God and Christ do live.  I know that the true gospel has been restored to this earth and that it will never leave again. I know, without a doubt, that the scriptures are true- they are Gods words.  I know that miracles do happen. Maybe not in the totally obvious and miraculous way that everyone thinks they should- but I have seen miracles happen in my life that I know couldn't be from anyone but God.  Anywho, the whole point of this post is to say that God works in mysterious ways to help us through trials and hard times in our lives. He is always there for us... he may let us suffer through some of our trials, but He is always there when he knows we need Him the most. Sometimes it takes some humbling on our part to bring us to our knees to ask for His help, sometimes not. But, He is always there for us, He loves us unconditionally.
